Hunt Countries

The Fort Carson Hounds  primary hunt country is south of Colorado Springs, CO consisting of grass and tree covered prairies, meadows, arroyos, gullies, and small canyons.  This country has nearly all forms of mammals and fowl found throughout Colorado.  Although located in the Rocky Mountain foothills, the climate stays fairly mild throughout the winter and snow depth is minimal.

Our "away" countries for special meets are located near Las Animas, CO and Trinidad, CO.  Both are grassland with excellent footing.

Fort Carson Hounds is registered with the Master of Fox Hounds Association (MFHA) of America and encourages all of our subscribers and guests to also join MFHA.

Hounds

The Fort Carson Hounds pack consists of Crossbred hounds, a combination of Walker, English and a touch of Penn-Marydel.  The predominant bloodline is Walker, hounds used to hunt mountain lions out here in the West.  Walkers are very vocal and are among the fastest and most agile dogs known.  They range from 20 to 27 inches high at the shoulders and weigh between 50 and 70 pounds.  They  are very powerful throughout the shoulder region and have large ears.

The FCH hounds do a tremendous job seeking out and following their quarry in our semi-arid environment.   They have great personalities and their cry and perseverance are incredible.
