FAQ

A: FAQ is an acronym for "frequently asked questions."

A: The Fort Carson Hounds have negotiated special rights with Fort Carson to allow us to hunt on their training range.  Since this is a military range, for your safety there are certain rules and restrictions that we must follow.  Hunt members who have gone through Range Control training will provide you instructions before we enter the hunting area.  If you need to return to the trailer from the hunt you should ask to be escorted by a hunt member who has gone through Range Control training.
A: It is not mandatory for everyone to go through Range Control training, except for MFH's, Fieldmasters and Staff members.  If you would like to help out during Staff or Fieldmaster shortages, you should complete the training.  Range Control training is given every first and last Wednesday of the month by Fort Carson Range Control.  This is held at Range Control (Building 9550 at 2600 Wilderness Rd) at 6:00 pm.

A: Fort Carson is a military base.  To enter the base you will need to go Gate 1 off Hwy 115 (from I-25 take South Academy and turn left at Hwy 115).  You will need to have with you a picture ID, your vehicle registration and proof of insurance.  Your vehicle will be inspected as standard procedure at the gate.
A: Good question!  First of all forget Google Maps, Expedia or OnStar as Fort Carson is cloaked from their domain.  Without the directions below you would be lost, lost, lost and doomed to roam around base indefinitely until you find a Military Policeman to help you.  Ask Sal if you don't believe me!  Hopefully these directions will help you avoid this problem.
1. After going through Gate 1 at the first traffic circle go right onto Harr Rd.
2. Go 2.5 miles and take a left at the T junction on Titus Rd
3. Go 0.9 miles and take a right onto Brown Rd at the first traffic lights
4. After 0.5 miles take the right fork onto Butts Rd.  This takes you through Gate 9050 into the range area
5. After 1.9 miles take a right onto Wilderness Rd.  Range Control is on your right

A: First of all - don't worry about any of the above.  We will take care of all of that for you.  Please contact the Honorary Secretary for directions as to where we will meet and information on our capping fees.  We generally hunt from Turkey Creek Recreation Area which does not require going through a controlled gate at Fort Carson .  Go South on Route 115 (12 miles from Academy Blvd South) until you see the sign to Turkey Creek Recreation Center.  Make a left into Turkey Creek and a right when entering the stable area.  Go past the Penrose House and make a left down through the dry creek bed.   Our trailers will be parked on left side of the road after the creek bed.  Come and join us and have a great time riding some spectacular country!
